PROJECT

THE CITY BAKERY Heiwa

  • Fukuoka Prefecture / Completed in 2015
  • Store / Interior Renovation / Refurbishment / First and Second Floor Rental Space of a Reinforced Concrete Building
  • Total Floor Area 305.91 m²

New York style cafe opened in a quiet residential area located 15-minutes on foot from Tenjin city center in Fukuoka City.

“THE CITY BAKERY” originated in NY and has been steadily developed in Tokyo and Osaka in Japan for the past few years. This is their first foray into the Kyushu area, a store with a Central Kitchen

The client chose a rental space on the first and second floors of a six-story reinforced concrete building. The building is about twenty years old and faces Namiki Street, and the upper floor of the building is used as a shared house.
This rental space was previously a restaurant. This renovation project has a total area of about 100 Tsubo including some open air rental spaces.

The client specified that it was important to create an establishment that looked like it had been there for a long time.

The exterior has an open terrace with the existing exterior walls set back to take in the sidewalk trees on the front road, where the façade is simply composed of a wood deck and awning.

The interior of the store is based on Industrial Interior design, similar to NY’s SOHO. A concrete frame (= skeleton) was displayed as much as possible so that the building’s age could be appreciated as it was, and the existing structural floor beams on the ceiling were painted white to accentuate the space.

* Currently, only the Central Kitchen is in operation.
